Information about original Origin of Pythagoras Theorem

Information about original Origin of Pythagoras Theorem

Mathematics is incomplete without Pythagoras Theorem. Every student, engineer use PYTHAGORAS THEOREM a no. of times in Mathematics. So, everyone studied that the theorem was given by the Greek mathematician and philosopher, Pythagoras.
Pythagoras founded the Pythagorean School of Mathematics in Cortona, a Greek seaport in Southern Italy. But if I tell you no this theorem was mentioned earlier somewhere then may you get confused. But yes it is the fact that this theorem was earlier mentioned in Indian Ancient Books. Let’s know about the hidden Secret of Pythagoras Theorem.  I am sure that most of the people do not know this Secret. Information about original Origin of Pythagoras Theorem

As we know Hypotenuse square+ Base square = Perpendicular square was given by Pythagoras as shown in our Textbooks and this is the reason it is known on his name. But this theorem was earlier given by an Indian Rishi.

  •  It was ancient Indians mathematicians who discovered Pythagoras theorem. This might come as a surprise to many, but it’s true that Pythagoras theorem was known much before Pythagoras and it was Indians who actually discovered it at least 1000 years before Pythagoras was born!
  • The name of the Indian Rishi Baudhāyana who discovered the Pythagoras theorem. Baudhāyana listed Pythagoras theorem in his book called Baudhāyana Śulbasûtra (800 BCE). Incidentally, Baudhāyana Śulbasûtra is also one of the oldest books on advanced Mathematics.

  • Rishi Baudhayana wrote it in sanskrit (दीर्घचतुरश्रस्याक्ष्णया रज्जु: पार्श्र्वमानी तिर्यग् मानी च यत् पृथग् भूते कुरूतस्तदुभयं करोति ॥) or“dīrghasyākaayā rajjuH pārśvamānī, tiryaDaM mānī, cha yatpthagbhUte kurutastadubhayā karoti.”
  • Interestingly, Baudhāyana used a rope as an example in the above shloka which can be translated as – A rope stretched along the length of the diagonal produces an area which the vertical and horizontal sides make together. As you see, it becomes clear that this is perhaps the most intuitive way of understanding and visualizing Pythagoras theorem (and geometry in general) and Baudhāyana seems to have simplified the process of learning by encapsulating the mathematical result in a simple shloka in a layman’s language.

Due to no awareness, people do not know this secret even many Indians, do not know this information. So, we felt that as Indian we are proud of our culture and our Rishees that is why I presented this info before you. Feel Proud as Indian.

So, this is Information about original Origin of Pythagoras Theorem. There are many other secrets which were in Indian History. You can explore more knowledge about this concept click here
